More Psychedelic and Garage music we love so well on CD!
SPIRIT - From the first few notes of 'Fresh Garbage', you this band is special, not to mention original. They link to the way our psyches were enmeshed in the reality of the Sixties. There are beautiful strings flowing in and out of 'MW' to soften the tone somewhat . . . for in their earliest period, Spirit was all about healing. Like many classic albums, this is one of a kind. Thank goodness it was recorded for all to appreciate for years to come.
STEPPENWOLF: All Time Greatest Hits - This is all the Steppenwolf the average fan will need - and a great choice if you're looking to upgrade your old copy of 16 Greatest Hits, this adds several tracks including the complete 9-minute medley "Monster / Suicide / America" (Greatest Hits included only "Monster.")
IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY - The Classic Band of the Sixites Embraced by San Francisco and the Love Generation, the band’s legendary first album featuring White Bird.
THE FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER - Spirit - Marked the first major breakthrough for Spirit, one of the late 60's most underrated bands. Their mix of fuzzed jazz psychedelia sounds tighter than in any of their earlier work. The results are breathtaking, and very much unlike the rest of the psychedelia made during that period. With Spirit, one gets an intelligently and professionally made lp that takes on all genres of music- jazz, blues, strings, as well as rock n roll. Spirit made music by their own rules- and it worked.
12 DREAMS OF DR. SARDONICUS - Spirit reached its prime with Twelve Dreams, a loosely constructed sci-fi concept album, it contains the band's biggest hit, the ecological "Nature's Way", the surreal rock of "Animal Zoo," and the orchestral psychedelia of "Life Has Just Begun." Bristling with ideas, energy, and Randy California's meaty guitar, Twelve Dreams exemplifies the best of the late '60s experimentalism.
THE BEST OF SPIRIT - 18 of the best by this fantastic Californian psych/prog outfit from the '60s & '70s, all digitally remastered. Contains all of their chart hits for both the Ode & Epic labels, including 'I Got A Line On You', '1984', 'Animal Zoo' & 'Mr. Skin', plus 'Nature's Way' and more!
CANNED HEAT - Uncanned! - Canned Heat has to be one of the best white blues bands of all time. Unfortunately they don't get the recognition they deserve. Their catalog is in pretty woeful shape on CD. Most of their albums are out of print. This 2-CD collection, however, is an excellent collection of Canned Heat's blues boogie. It has wonderful liner notes which tell the whole story of the band, as well as Canned Heat's complete discography. If you like blues, then you're sure to like Canned Heat.
Strawbs: Halcyon Days - The A&M Years The Strawbs were not just a fine band - they were several! Their development from introspective acoustic balladeers, to purveyors of folky anthems, to epic prog-rockers, and almost back again are all here on this very satisfying collection. The distinguishing feature throughout each lineup is, of course, Dave Cousins' remarkable voice.
Strawbs - From The Witchwood (Import) - The Groups Second UK Chart Album and their Last to feature keyboard superstar Rick Wakeman. This is the vision the Strawbs were after, the synthesis of folk and rock, with a smattering of every other style thrown in just to keep you guessing. "A Glimpse of Heaven" is one of the most perfect opening songs ever to grace an album. It's flawless!
JAMES GANG - Best of the James Gang (Import) - The James Gang had many incarnations. From their most popular period led by Joe Walsh, followed by periods with Tommy Bolin (later of Deep Purple and solo fame), Domenic Troiano (later of the Guess Who), this collection splendidly captures the cream of the band's recordings in all phases. The sound quality is immaculate and the set includes tracks not available on other Best Of releases, such as Joe Walsh's workout on the Yardbirds, "Lost Woman."
THE SEEDS - Pushin’ Too Hard - Rebellious psychedelic punk of the late 60's. This music is very raw, but good. The songs are a blend of punk and 'flower power'. Dreamy lyrics mixed with punkish energy. This is probably the best garage band to exist.
PSYCHOTIC REACTION - THE VERY BEST OF COUNT FIVE - Best known for "Psychotic Reaction", one of the finest examples of garage punk the sixties had to offer, you get it all here in one nice little package and there's more to recommend it than the title hit.
VANILLA FUDGE - Vanilla Fudge - Possibly the first progressive rock release. The originality is remarkable, despite the fact that they only covered well-known pop songs of the day. The Beatles Ticket to Ride, the Zombies She's Not There, and the Supremes You Keep Me Hanging On - The Fudge gave them a slowed down, dramatic treatment with the heavy organ, active bass, pounding drums, and fuzzy psychedelic guitar. Their version of the Impressions People Get Ready is quite effective with the band's unique vocals, and church styled organ.
THE BARBARIANS - Are You A Boy Or Are You A Girl? - Outstanding compilation of The Barbarians' tracks. Listen to the roots of the punk-movement, plus some excellent instrumentals from the days when recording was actually spontaneous. "Moulty" is a classic track, a gem, and Moulty of The Barbarians is an awesome drummer and a gentleman to boot!
THEM - Them - You've got to listen to this CD at top volume, in a lonely midnight bar drinking a pint. This is scary music coming out of the Belfast night in 1965 -- lean, hard blues announcing the arrival of a major new talent to the world.
VELVET UNDERGROUND - Velvet Underground - Anyone who wants to know where "alternative" music came from should be pointed in this direction. Released in 1967, this album was a good 20 years ahead of its time, and still packs enough punch to blow away today's wanna-be rock bands.
THE BEST OF THE BEAU BRUMMELS - Coming out of San Francisco, the Brummels had a few super hits like Just a Little and Laugh Laugh. This album is made up two of their first albums, with their best hits. The quality is excellent.
THE TROGGS -
Hit Single Anthology -
A true anthology of a classic group. All the hits are here!
THE LEFT BANKE - There’s Gonna Be a Storm - This 26-cut compilation rounds up virtually everything ever recorded by the Left Banke, the awesomely talented pop band best known for the classically-influenced 1966 hits "Walk Away Renee" and "Pretty Ballerina."
SMALL FACES - Anthology - The Small Faces forged an unforgettable sound and attack, from Marriott's grinding guitar to Ian McLagen's thundercrack organ and the diaphragm-driving rhythm section of Ronnie Lane and Kenney Jones. Here is a great selection of Small Faces songs.
BLUES MAGOOS - Psychedelic Lollipop/Electric (2 albums) - If ever a band made psychedelic music fun and knew how not to take it or themselves so seriously, the Blues Magoos were they. They jerked one classic cut into the top 40, "(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet," and if you were there at the time and could resist them, you just didn't know how to have a good time.
? & THE MYSTERIANS - More Action - This album, while being a new recording, will hold you spellbound. From the start you feel that the Mysterians have lost absolutely nothing over the years. If anything, 96 tears is slightly better than the original. Cheree is phenomenal and there are superb covers of the Jaynettes '63 hit "Sally Go Round the Roses" and the Rolling Stones "Satisfaction"
STATUS QUO - Live Alive Quo - One Fan writes - I bought this based solely on the memory of their fantastic Live Aid performance. I wasn't disappointed!! They display the same energy & pure rock'n'roll spirit, mixing in a touch of up-tempo blues as well as Irish and/or Scottish instrumental pieces.
STATUS QUO - Greatest Hits & More (Import) - One of a number of best of's belonging to the band. This one stands out because it mixes classic Quo singles with great album tracks ranging from the begining to the hardcore days to the more commerical sound of the 80's.
TOMMY JAMES & THE SHONDELLS - Anthology - From the early garage band stompers Hanky Panky & Mony Mony, to the Psychedelic classics Crimson & Clover & Sweet Cherry Wine, all the great songs are here, including the lesser known but fantastic Ball of Fire, Mirage and She, and from Tommy James later solo effort, Draggin’ the Line - warning, you may have trouble getting this one out of your CD player!
THE BEST OF FACES - Good Boys When The’re Asleep - A revamped, bluesier edition of '60s English pop notables the Small Faces, the Faces established a rollicking musical identity that threatened to overshadow the Stones at their own game. BEST OF THE STANDELLS - Dirty Water" easily ranks with "Louie Louie", "Wild Thing", "Gloria" and other great garage band classics of the 1960's. "Barracuda" and "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" equally burst forth with the same energy, attitude and raw emotion.
THREE DOG NIGHT - Celebrate - 1965 - 1975 - All the great songs, many with alternate mixes and versions - a GREAT COLLECTION!
RARE EARTH - 20TH CENTURY MASTERS - The Millennium Collection - What an unbelievable price for an excellent cd. I have had Rare Earth Live on vinyl for years now and this is absolutely the icing on the cake. The remastering is superb. I could go on and on how this cd rocks but I will just say order it ASAP.
FIRST EDITION -Greatest Hits - The only CD of Kenny Rogers & the First Edition you'll need. Has all the original hits and great liner notes.
